Access to modern energy has always been something that we take for granted. Little do we realise that a number of citizens in Indonesia still suffer from energy poverty. Household access to energy sources is critical for poverty alleviation because these energy carriers provide services that meet basic human needs, increase efficiency, and improve education. However, we still see those who do not have that privilege, hence facing difficulties in improving their living standard. Despite the major improvement over the years, energy poverty still becomes an important issue for Indonesia to address. Seeing the shortcomings of existing programmes and challenges in effectively achieving the goal, to what extent must Indonesia alter the existing policies, in order to foster sustainable development?
